Irrigation Solutions

Vegetables and soft fruit will all benefit from irrigation, however it's important to understand which method of irrigation will enable you to yield the best from your produce.

Vegetables like lettuce, beans, celery, courgettes, cauliflowers, cabbages, cucumber, tomatoes, leaks and peas require plenty of water. Use Soaker Hose and Drippers to deliver water directly to the roots.

Regular watering is required when in flower or forming fruit to prevent splitting and cracking caused by drought conditions followed by watering. Timed Irrigation is the perfect solution to ensure delivery of the right amount of water at regular intervals.

Irrigation prevents vegetables bolting (i.e. producing flowers or seeds before producing a crop, very common in spinach, onions, lettuces, chinese leaves and bulb fennel all of which will benefit from Micro Sprinkler Irrigation or Triple Soaker Hose.

Uneven watering in some extreme circumstances will result in blossom end rot, where tomato fruits develop a black, leathery patch at the base and fail to develop normally. In less adverse conditions, tomatoes tend to form a rather tough skin when water is in short supply.

Drip Irrigation is ideal for large leaved vegetables such as pumpkins and marrows as it delivers the water right where it is needed rather than simply spraying the leaves.

Border Watering

You can use Drip Irrigation, Micro Sprinklers and Pop Ups.

Drip Irrigation - For a discrete system, use Soaker Hose. Cover the pipe with soil or mulch.

Micro Sprinklers - Fully adjustable Micro Sprinklers are quick and simple to fit.

Pop Ups - Pop ups are not recommended for exclusive use on beds and borders as the water jets are strong and may remove leaves if placed too closely to the plants. However, if used as part of a lawn watering system, they can provide effective cover if you allow sufficient distance to enable watering whilst preventing damage.

Hanging Baskets and Potted Plants ...

Hanging baskets benefit immeasurably from receiving regular doses of water, and do not appreciate flooding or becoming water logged.

To remain healthy, plants require both oxygen and just the right amount of moisture at their roots. With a timer controlled drip irrigation system you can accurately control the amount of water your hanging baskets and pots receive.

Once set up, your irrigation system will deliver the same amount of water every time. So, no more over, or indeed under watering.

Flowerbeds and Hedging

Drip and micro-sprinkler systems are ideal for meeting the requirements of all plant types and garden areas.

For flowers, plants and shrubs, 90º, 180º and 360º micro sprinklers are recommended, as are adjustable flow and self-regulating drippers, all designed to save water, because it is directed straight to the plant roots. Strip micro sprinklers are best for long, narrow areas, such as garden strips.

Small surfaces or plants with delicate flowers? Use micro sprinklers, for a fine natural rain-like effect.

Large areas with flower beds or lawn sections? Rotary 360º micro sprinklers are just the answer.

All sprinklers can be installed on robust support stakes; sprinkling height can be adjusted as required to actual plant height. Micro sprinkler jets may also be modified by the special adjustment valve.

Soaker hose also offers a simple solution by slowly diffusing water through its capillary walls. Strong but flexible, designed to be laid around plants or with a covering of soil or mulch. Offers continuous drainage even in freezing conditions!

Lawns and Large Gardens

There are a lot of good reasons for installing an underground automatic irrigation system:
The convenience of having your garden automatically watered, even when you’re away or on holiday (no need to find someone to come and look after the garden).
The knowing that all areas of the garden will get the necessary amount of water, without waste, assuring maximum economy, no hoses above ground to get in the way of the lawn mower, sprinklers are flush to the level of the lawn and are hardly noticeable.
Silent operation, causing no disturbance to neighbouring homes.

Increased property value - no well-tended lawn can today afford to do without an automatic irrigation system.

Vegetables and Greenhouse Irrigation 2

Different plants/vegetables demand different types of irrigation. Plants with a more fragile disposition towards water, such as tomatoes, can be irrigated by drippers, thereby eliminating the risk of water build up and the formation of fungus. Lettuce and recently seeded ground however require watering from above by micro sprinklers fitted to support stakes, an arrangement designed to deliver a fine rain-like spray. Vegetables grown in long rows are irrigated with soaker hose or triple soaker.
